If you’ve been following Tattooed Truths, you know we’ve been talking about recognizing the toxic patterns in your life that started in childhood. If you’ve read this far, you already know something needs to change and that can feel huge and overwhelming.

So let’s make it small. Because nothing changes if nothing changes.

Start With Awareness

The first step is noticing. Toxic patterns often hide in everyday life:

  • The way you talk to yourself in the mirror.
  • The way you let people cross your boundaries.
  • The way you feel responsible for everyone else’s feelings but not your own.

Take a day this week and just watch. No judgement. Write it down. Notice what triggers you. Notice when you shrink yourself to keep the peace.

Pick One Tiny Change

Don’t overhaul your life overnight. You won’t, and that’s okay. Instead, pick one small thing. Maybe:

  • Say no once, kindly but firmly.
  • Pause before you apologize for something that’s not your fault.
  • Speak up when something bothers you — just once, just to practice.

These moments add up. You don’t have to fix everything today. You just have to prove to yourself that you can make a change.

My Own First Step

When I first realized how deep my own toxic patterns ran, it felt impossible. But my first small step was telling the truth to myself, then to someone I trusted. The second step was remembering that truth when I wanted to fall back into old habits.

You Deserve Better

You didn’t ask for the wounds you carry, but you get to choose what you do with them now. Take one small step this week. Just one. Write it down. Tell someone. And remember: nothing changes if nothing changes.

Closing Line:

Next time on Tattooed Truths, I’ll share the moment I knew just how bad my own patterns were when my daughter was born, and my past became impossible to ignore.

Stay with me. We’re just getting started.
